Hi, I’m Jules, owner of Redwoods & Waves. I take East Bay dogs out of the city and into the Oakland redwoods for quiet trails and refreshing forest time.

I take three dogs at a time Monday–Friday for an hour of hiking, with door-to-door pickup. I use positive reinforcement, treats, and a post-hike healthy snack break to help your pup come home happily tired.

Most hikes are in two different redwood spots in the Oakland hills. Sometimes I take pups to the bayfront in Emeryville for the ocean breeze and views.

Adventure Rates

$65 a hike per dog

First hike is a $50 trial hike—very chill, no commitment, and I can report back on how your pup did. Hikes are Mon–Fri. I recommend a minimum of two hikes per week (e.g., Mon & Wed or Tues & Thurs), but even one hike a week is beneficial.

Summer Specials: I am currently accepting temporary dogs for those on vacation or recovering from surgery.

Recovery Support Special: Book at least four hikes, and one is free.

The Pick-up Protocol:

  • Safety First: Dogs are safely buckled into their own seats.

  • Comfort: Air conditioning and chill music are always on.

  • Security: Locked boxes, locked doors, and professional hand-off protocols.

What’s included?

  • Door-to-door pickup and a dedicated 2–3.5 hour adventure window ensuring your dog is never rushed and enjoys a relaxed transition from home to trail.

  • 1 hour on the trails + training treats.

  • 10-minute post-hike healthy snack break with plenty of water.

  • Daily photo or video update so you can see the fun!

Leash Policy: Hikes are usually on leash, with some off-leash time reserved for dogs with a strong rapport, positive play manners, good recall, and handler approval. I practice recall one at a time on a 15-ft line so dogs can explore while staying safe. Overall, please expect dogs to be on-leash, with off-leash time at my discretion (not expected).

$10 "Home-Ready" Hand-off: Perfect for busy schedules. I'll finish the adventure with a final potty break plus a water and food refill so your pup is settled and satisfied when you get home.

The "Small Pack" Advantage: With only three dogs, your pup gets socialization without overstimulation, 1:1 attention, and more room to walk on a leash.

Why the redwoods for dogs?

Pictured: a redwood spot I take the pups regularly. You’ll always know where we are.

Most modern humans intend to take their dogs into nature more often, but in reality, they don’t have 1.5-3 hours available during a busy workweek and sometimes want to rest on the weekends. They may also have mobility issues, not be hiking-identified, or may have limited opportunities for their pups to socialize.

And it goes without saying that every dog would benefit from spending time in the redwoods. Research shows nature helps dogs stay calm while giving mental stimulation. One day in the forest could easily replace a day of crowds, cages, and overhead fluorescent lights at doggy daycare. I’m here to make it happen.

Meet Jules

Hi there! I’m Jules, founder of Redwoods and Waves. I'm an East Bay Regional Parks-permitted dog walker, Pet CPR & First Aid-certified, and fully insured.

After years of dog sitting and walking for friends, as well as caring for my own pup, I realized my favorite part was taking dogs on outdoor adventures, so I turned that passion into a business.

Over the years, I’ve also worked with professional dog trainers to learn best practices in walking and behavior, including positive reinforcement and reward-based training.

I come from a counseling and sociology background, so I research dog behavior and ingredients, stay attentive to each pup’s needs, and use praise to support their well-being. I also drive a hybrid Subaru to reduce my environmental footprint.

Join the pack today

Please fill out the form below. I do a meet-and-greet for all new pups. I will get back ASAP!

Note for Safety & Training: To ensure the best experience for our pack and our owners, I cannot accept dogs with a history of biting, nipping, starting fights, food guarding, any incident that felt out of character, or persistent, reactive barking at people or other dogs. If you are worried about your dog’s ability to play nice with other dogs (i.e. newly adopted or a puppy), I recommend a trainer and structured play sessions with dogs first; then they are welcome after you get a sense of their socializing.

Some prey responses (squirrels, cats, wildlife) are okay, just please let me know for handling. Dogs with prey responses toward other dogs or people (displaying focused, hunting-type attention toward them) are not best suited for these types of walks.

A quick note on gear: I do not work with dogs using e-collars, as I focus on positive reinforcement.

All dogs should be friendly toward dogs and people without episodes mentioned above, wear a properly fitted harness, and settle quickly after a few "hello" barks at pickup. Accuracy in your dog’s history is vital for safety and liability. By filling out this form, you agree. Thank you! :)
