Nature Hikes for East Bay Dogs
Hi there! I’m Jules, owner of Redwoods and Waves. I take dogs on hikes to the Oakland redwoods and occasionally to the bayfront for ocean breeze and views. I use positive reinforcement and offer door-to-door pickup. I ensure your pup comes home happily tired, giving you peace of mind during the busy work week.
Currently serving most of Oakland, including Bella Vista, Highland Park, Glenview, Diamond District, Oakmore, Lincoln Highlands, Redwood Heights, Leona Heights, Woodminister, and nearby hill neighborhoods. For North Oakland, the Grand Lake area, or Berkeley, a $10 flat travel fee is added per adventure below. If unsure, feel free to email me. Not currently serving Downtown or West Oakland due to distance.
Adventures
Small-Pack Redwoods Hike, $55 per adventure
A small group hike in the redwoods and occasionally the bayfront. Best for exercise, socialization, individual attention, and stimulation.
Intentionally capped at 3 dogs for safety, individual attention, calm, and park compliance.
Access to exclusive redwood trails most walkers can't utilize due to the sheer number of dogs.
Dogs are assigned weekly slots after the initial 1:1 trial hikes. Hikes run M, W, F. Although I recommend at least two hikes a week, dogs will still benefit from a once-a-week “hike treat”.
All Adventures Include:
1 Hour hiking: Focused on quiet forest paths with plenty of mental stimulation.
Treats: Healthy-ingredient training treats to maintain good trail etiquette and positive reinforcement.
10-min Post-Hike Healthy Snack Break: An additional healthy-ingredient snack with plenty of water.
Daily Photo or Video Updates: To see how much fun your pup is having!
Door-to-Door Service: 2-3 hours total includes driving to and from redwoods, loading and unloading, hiking, snack break. You will always get live updates as well as where we are headed. A/C is always on, and dogs are buckled in. Most dogs sleep on the way back.
Trail FAQs & Policies
Leash Policy: Hikes are on-leash, with off-leash time depending on environment, rapport, recall, and handler discretion.
1:1 Training Walks: If your dog needs help with excitability (pulling/jumping), loose leash manners, or is easily overwhelmed/spooked, I recommend my 1:1 neighborhood training walks or 1:1 hikes to build skills and confidence. Starting at $80 per 1:1 neighborhood training session (75-90 mins) or $130 for a 1:1 redwoods training hike (2-2.5 hrs).

Hi, I'm Jules, founder of Redwoods & Waves.
My dedication to dogs started in childhood, as I cared for high-energy herding breeds like German Shepherds, as well as adventurous poodle mixes, and spent summers in Sisters, Oregon with my uncle's rescued wolf-Malamute hybrids. My uncle taught me the importance of daily exercise for dogs, including hour-long forest hikes. As a result, the dogs were calm, happy, and rarely had behavioral issues.
I realized later through research that in addition to exercise, hour-long forest hikes provided more complicated smells than the city or suburbs alone, which boosted the dogs’ mental stimulation and tired them out. So after years of taking my own pups on adventures and caring for friends’ dogs, I decided to turn my passion into a business. I also drive a hybrid Subaru to reduce my environmental impact.
Professionally, I come from a counseling and sociology background, and won an award for my sociological research. This experience directly informs how I research and analyze dog behavior. Over the years, I've worked with professional dog trainers to learn industry best practices, including reward-based training. I stay attentive to each pup's needs and understand the importance of praise and positive reinforcement.

Testimonials
“Jules took such good care of [my dog] while I was recovering from surgery! [She] came back exhausted and satisfied each time Jules took her out. Jules was prompt and communicative and sent me pictures from each hike. Jules was also very in tune with my dogs specific needs as a highly sensitive rescue and was able to adapt to make sure she felt safe and comfortable in a new environment. I highly recommend Jules for your doggy nature excursion needs!”

Please fill out the form below to schedule a meet-and-greet. I will get back as soon as possible.
All dogs should be mostly friendly to a new handler with no biting, snapping, or food-guarding history, and settle after a few hello barks at pick-up.
I use positive reinforcement methods, so I do not accept dogs using e-collars or aversive equipment. A properly fitted harness is all that’s needed. Must be neutered/spayed. Thank you! :)
